Chapter Eight: A Date To Remember
Dear Nettie,
I was exhausted after work and had a quick bite to eat before asking Grunkle Geoff to play chess with me. I must have been more tired than I thought because he beat me pretty fast.
I feel like I'm forgetting something.
Aren't you supposed to be on a date? I asked Grunkle Geoff.
Oh, sugar! Chess pieces scattered across the table as he hurried to go change. Two minutes later he was struggling with a tie and then gave up to brush his hair.
Kestrel, I think you're also forgetting an important date.Date? What date? I opened up the calendar app and there was that annoying alarm I'd kept snoozing all day:
Date With Mitchy <3 I screamed and ran past a very startled Nancy, looking prim and proper in a gorgeous blue dress, and threw on fresh clothes. I used as much roll-on deodorant as possible and body mist on top of that before shooting out the front door.
I'm so sorry, please don't hate me! I ran up to Mitchell, breathing rapidly.
Relax, I don't hate you. I've been wanting to see you all day.My hands that had been clenched into tight fists loosened and I sighed in relief. What I didn't expect next was Mitchell planting a kiss on my lips. Do I keep my eyes open or shut them? What do I do?
Just as quickly, Mitchell pulled away.
Sorry, am I going too fast? It's just, I've wanted to do that since yesterday. I'm not very good, am I?Huh? No, no. It was too ... brief. This time I grabbed him and dramatically kissed him, much like one of the romantic films that make Mum cry her eyes out.
Mitchell, baby, will you be my other half for the rest of this Dynasty and beyond?
Why, of course I will.I stayed on my knee with gravel poking marks as he admired the ring.
We kissed again and did a celebratory dance that was mostly shaking our hands together like excited little girls.
Then we slow danced under the stars while the steamboat slowly chugged its way across the river.
Not to be rude, Mitch, but you need a makeover. Right now.Mitchell took a taxi to gather his belongings while I hobbled home - I didn't tell him he'd stepped on my toes several times and I was sure I'd lost all feeling in them. As I was getting ready for bed, Grunkle and Granty called for me to change into something formal - they were renewing their vows. In a trance-like state I changed, watched the wedding and tried my best to cheer and throw confetti then at last I crawled into bed, shattered from the day and nights events.
Love, Kessy H Chant.
