Who Says Money Isn't Everything?

Who Says Money Isn't Everything?

Goal
Money isn't everything? Bah! It's the only thing that matters in this short challenge. Play one Sim until their Adult birthday and make as much money as you can.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim.
  • No household additions.
  • No Gardening allowed - be careful not to harvest wild plants.
  • The Outdoor Retreat GamePack is banned for this event.
  • No life extension methods allowed.
  • If your Sim dies then you are done with the challenge. Post in this thread that you are DNF.
  • This challenge concludes when your Sim ages up to Adult.

Scoring

Household Funds — When your Sim ages up to Adult, immediately pause your game and note your household funds. Please take a screenshot indicating the amount in case the challenge team needs verification. When you post your score in this thread, do not include the screenshot.

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, LenaLJ, and Blackrosea) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

I think I might get a good score on this one, but I need to test it to see if my idea works out.

Ooh. Starting out simple, I see. Finally a challenge that doesn't seem intimidating.  ;D

Does "household funds" mean just the cash your sim has, or does it include the value of the lot? Thanks!

It's cash on hand - mouse over the figure under your Sim's emotional state and it says "Household Funds."

I got two questions: Why is gardening banned?
And how do you get your screen shots to show the interface so that you can have a shot  for the official try in case the team want visual evidence.  Can't really seem to find it so it better that you add a line or two about how to get that for the rules.

I don't know why gardening is banned, but to take a picture showing your Household Funds:

Go to Gameplay Options;
Click on Camera Controls;
Under Memories and Screenshots, check the box for User Interface.

That should give you a picture that shows your UI, which includes Household Funds.

I guess only the team can tell us why it is banned, if they want to that is.

Thanks for the info, first time I've needed to take a shot of the UI in this game, but still good to know for the actual attempt.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say gardening's banned because it's an easy way to make a lot of money and they didn't want to make things too simple for us? Not sure...

Another (possibly easier, possibly harder) way to do this is Shift + Print Screen.  If you do that, then open Paint and Ctrl-V or just File>Paste it will let you save a picture of your current screen.  The only problem with this is that if you have 2 monitors you'll get both of them in the screenshot.  This method works all the time though, so its also handy for taking pictures of error messages and such.

I would assume that gardening is banned because the price of produce fluctuates in a glitchy kind of way.

Really Excited but w/Question about CC/Mods rule
« Reply #13 on: December 22, 2014, 10:27:29 PM »
This is all very exciting to me!!  ;D My first ever, of any kind, Sims gameplay contest! So, I want to make certain I understand things before the kickoff on January 1. BTW, LOADS of Great questions being asked. Thank you all because most of them not only would it not have occurred to me to ask, but I didn't even know to consider some of them. So, this question maybe obvious to some but there might be another who is unsure like me. I read ALL the rules and while I mostly get the No CC/mods rule. I want to be 100+% clear: Does this rule mean I need setup a game environment that is totally clean, and how would I do this when I usually use CC/mods? Also, does this include clothing, hair, and other CAS CC that alter the way our sims look without affecting the way they act? Thanks in advance!

Hi Diva - yeah, no mods at all. Period. Including ones that only change appearance. I am not the one to give you advice on how to set up a totally clean game because I never use mods to begin with, so hopefully someone else can. Or maybe ask on the Mods board of the forum.
