Chapter 101: A Close Shave

I've taken up practicing piano again. I started years ago when mum was still alive but just never had enough time to get back to it. I almost didn't hear Kennedy cry out.

Just as Winston started another painting, he said a terrible tiredness came over him.

Grim watched dispassionately through the window at Winston's demise.

And there my best friend lay, amongst his paint and art things he loved best. He looked for all the world as though he were asleep.

I was shocked but fairly certain I could buy him some more time.

The Dark Angel looked stunned as I handed him a death flower.

But then turned and began to resurrect my friend.

I'm not sure it was the pleasantest of experiences.

Winston was astonished to be back amongst the living.

I grabbed hold of him, both of us quite emotional.

I left Winston a little shell-shocked but otherwise ok.

And went to have a chat with Grim. I too have been told to get my affairs in order so I figured a little friendly chatting might butter him up a little.

Winston wasted no time in getting Bianca and Tiana around. Leah was still at work.

He held them close.

And told them how much he loved them both.

We spent some time just chatting and being grateful we could still enjoy each others company for a little longer.

Chapter 102: An Unexpected End

Winston had wandered upstairs while we were all still talking.

I have no idea why he even went into my playful room.

Everyone in the house knew that it was a dangerous room. Filled to the brim with objects that could cause a sim to become hysterical if they didn't know what they were doing.

I had made this room years ago when I was starting out on my career as an entertainer. I should have locked the door.

It was too late to do anything.

Grim swept in so silently so that none of us even knew anything was happening.

The terrible irony was that the girls were all giggling over jokes about fashion as... as... ...

The first stab of panic occurred when I saw The Reaper gliding down our stairs.

My heart sank and I knew without a shadow of a doubt who he had come for.

I wept over Winston's urn.

Grim went and lit the bonfire, taunting us no doubt, about how close so many of us had come to death during that awful party a few weeks ago.

I went for a long walk down by the river. I thought about my friend Winston and all he had meant to me. I thought about all he had done for our legacy, one that wasn't even his but only through marriage and loyalty to his friends. I missed him so badly, he has left a big gap in all our lives. I thought about Cara and how Winston had managed to bring her round to living a good life before it had been too late for her. I thought about Bianca and Tiana, and about Leah and her son, Winston's grandson Aden. All these people would need to be told and then need to be helped through their grief. For the loving sake of my friend, this was the least I could do.

R.I.P. Winston. What a great sim.

And R.I.P Cara. You were a lot of fun!

And had a gentle side too.

Aww Wolf, you shouldn't read such sad chapters at work.  :( Wasn't he a great sim though! The house is empty without him... I keep looking for him!  :-\

As you will note, I haven't posted much on this forum over the years.
But I just wanted to say, Playalot, how much I've enjoyed reading about your Legacy. I'd actually started reading your Hollingsworth Dynasty episodes soon after you started and am enjoying those, too.
What a treat that Winston gets to live on!!!
Well, in my free time these past three days, I've been reading about the Foxes instead of playing Sims 4 myself.
Thank you for the emotional roller-coaster ride and all the inspiration (for both gaming and writing) your prose and images evoke.   :)

Chapter 103: Getting By

Leah took the news as well as can be expected. No matter how prepared you are it's still a terrible shock to lose a loved one.

Young Aden feels the loss of his granddad too and was in a strange quiet sort of mood.

I encouraged him to talk about it as it's never healthy to keep things bottled up.

Matt, although he hadn't known Winston for very long, had grown very close to him so took his feelings out on the punching bag.

Kennedy spent a lot of time in the studio where she felt closest to him.

Laila and dad hung out.

They have such a close relationship that they were able to comfort each other.

After lunch Laila and I took Aden and Tiana to a local park.

It was so good to be able to spoil them for an afternoon.

They are such dear children.

We all chatted for ages before finally actually making it to the park. It was a good afternoon.

Later, I tinkled the ivories a little and thought about how to get my affairs in order while I still had time. I knew I had to name the next heir soon...

Kennedy and I enjoyed each others company for a while as we watched the Fireplace Channel in front of the fireplace.

And then it was time for Laila's next party. None of us were really in the right mood for it, but the legacy has to continue no matter how down we were all feeling over Winston's death.

Jovan, Julianna, Khalil and Laila played cards. It was a little tense with Jovan and Khalil not quite hitting it off.

Matt and Tiana really enjoy each other's company. Matt's surprisingly good with kids considering he's had no experience.

Matt's dad  picked up the party a little by telling some jokes and Tiana and Matt chatted away happily.

A bit of dancing...

Some great food...

and some gentle ribbing of Leilani's hilarious hotdog costume, had us all feeling a lot happier. Laila got a silver medal as for some reason we couldn't seem to all eat at the same time... even though we had! A rather confusing outcome but Laila was happy enough to have another party under her belt.

Talking about belts...

Matt rushed out the door to work the next morning claiming that he better have a promotion by the end of the day or he'll be gutted.

Laila's taken up painting and Kennedy is only to happy to pass on all the knowledge that Winston had passed onto her.

I was pleased to have Aden pop in. He looked a lot happier today. It's about time we all stopped getting by and were happy again. I know that this is what Winston would have wanted.

Chapter 104: A Promotion

It was Laila who snagged the promotion and though Matt was thrilled for her, he was pretty gutted for himself.

He spent a bit of time in the garden which he says helps to focus his mind.

While Tiana triumphantly yelled meck chate across our table!

My gorgeous wife mentored our equally gorgeous daughter to the next level of fitness.

Then cooled off with Matt.

The girls caught up with all the latest gossip.

And finally Tiana is feeling at home enough that she will help herself instead of being too shy. We want her to feel that this is her second home.

Matt and Tiana enjoy cracking jokes.

And Laila and Jovan seem to be getting on together very well.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if our youngest daughter was to marry first. Especially with Jovan being a family orientated sim.

I've been helping dad master his guitar skills. It's been great just hanging out with him. I'm certainly starting to enjoy my retirement.

Matt said he had a plan to give his work performance a boost.

Which involved him yelling at his friends so they could improve their fitness levels.

Just kidding. He is an exceptional sportsman and even better at mentoring. He is able to answer just about anyone's questions about fitness and sport and shows a great amount of patience as he listens to other peoples fitness concerns.

I'm not quite sure how all this mentoring is going to help his career but it is certainly building his socialization skills... and that's all good.

Even our neighbours popped down to the gym to get a few of Matt's pointers.

Leah said that by the end of the evening there were a lot of pretty smelly, sweaty sims who were very pleased with the skill level increases Matt had helped them with.

I don't know whether Jovan really wanted to increase his fitness...

He just said he was happy to help Matt in any way he could.
