Roommates

Okay I started playing a household with a Sim that I had saved to bin. I moved him into a nice house in Twinbrook and he went wife-searching.

He finds a wife and they get married but soon after that, these random people start showing up INSIDE the house. I lock the doors to everyone but the household.

I look at the relationship bar and they appear to be housemates, but not under my control. The current file is just him and his wife [soon to be kids too]. Before 1.50, this did not happen at all.

Edit: This post looks strange due to it not having been written for this thread or topic, but instead was about the changes in 1.5 and not the changes in University.

I don't know when it got enabled, but the game has roommate support now.

I found ask to be roommate in the chat menu's when talking to a sim, at first nothing seem to happen, but then I started having a new sim living in my house, without it being part of the controled sim.

The friends list, also show them as roommate. (New icon at the bottom)

I got a popup about them paying rent.

I don't know how to make them stop being roommate, no option for it anywhere I've looked.

They just live in your house as high free will sims, go to work, stay up to late because they started working out and generally work badly, since high free will alone can't really control a sim all that well 24/7.

I have been wondering about this since reading about it elswhere.   However, it does not appear in my chat menu.  I wonder if you need to have certain EP's installed to get it.

Obviously, I have not had this problem, but my suggestion, if you want to get rid of them is to try the "Kick out" option on your phone or PC.  If that doesn't work and you really want to get them out, go into edit town and use split family to move them onto the clipboard, then either delete or move them into another house.  I hope one of these works for you.

Just loaded a game after getting the roommate, the sim show up in the picture, so dropping a roommate must be part of the regular move out system. Drat, no the load is broken, she is now a normal house hold member.

The rules for asking must be level of friendship and higher levels of "current interaction" (Your sim being social to the other sim, when chatting). Always had trouble with the friendly category, since a lot of the chat options drops the interaction level down, where romance and fun everything raise the level, unless you go outside the category.

Maybe free will get throttled on my machine, so it doesn't work well, because even with normal NPC sims, they are broken, there needs are all drained when you meet them in town or when they invite you to parties. (Parties has gotten better, used to be they where never home when you tried to click attend, that's fixed now, but I still get there and then get told the party is over, before I get anything done, because they are all working on eating/toilet visits)

Another problem I found: The Sim I invited to be a roommate, has a roommate listed in her friends list. :/

It look like roommate is broken without University. :/

It sounds like the other sims maybe "roommate" sims that you do not have control of. I know this is something new to the game that came with the latest patch release. There is a post just below your post where another forum member posted something about roommates. It's still new so I don't have much knowledge or experience with roommates, but one of your options might be to go to edit town and see if you can move them into a different home, or try to evict them. Hope this helps. Other member's may have other ideas too. Good Luck.

This is a new feature in preparation for the release of University Life.  It's apparently not going to work properly until the the new expansion or the patch that comes out with it is installed.

I don't have university yet, but I've got patch 1.50.  In my experience with having a roommate in a normal household, an easy way to get them to move out is to call up the Move option on the telephone.  A warning appears that all roommates will leave the household if you continue.  Hit yes to go into the real estate town screen, then back out.  Your family stays put, but the roommate(s) leave the home.

I also get the roommate becomes a household member upon loading the save problem.  I do have a couple of Nraas mods active (mainly overwatch to keep the game smooth), so that could be the reason it's happening to my game if other people don't have the same issue.  To fix it I kicked out the roommate via the move option, invited them over, and asked them to be a roommate again.

In general the roommates are pretty nifty.  They act like uncontrolled members of the household, they count as having an adult home if parents go out (but if the roommate leaves the "needs a babysitter" menu appears), and the one my family took in kept playing with the dogs and taking care of the toddler!  The rent was small (175 for one roommate), but I'm curious if that was due to the small, cheap house they lived in, or the small, cheap bed he slept on.

My only issue is the "Set Bed Ownership" option on the beds.  I can't figure out how to unset it (so I either re-assign the bed, or delete it and place a new one).  Also, I'm not sure if a double bed can be owned by two people.  My attempts resulted in either husband or wife being able to sleep in a double bed, but never both.

I've used bed ownership with no problem on a married couple, I just clicked one side and chose husband then the other side and chose wife, can't say I've paid enough attention to see if they sleep on the assigned side mind you.

While at University, you can go to the Admin Building to ask for a roommate reassignment.  I also have the ability to dismiss a roommate so maybe these options will be available on the ones at home, too.

Yes!! This is so the case! You CAN dismiss a roommate that has been assigned to your home. I never knew that you could have the ability to dismiss/reassignment a roommate while at University, good to know... Thanks!
